Silicon Wave Licenses ARM7TDMI Processor Core For Integration Into Bluetooth Devices

CAMBRIDGE, England and SAN DIEGO, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ARM [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions and Silicon Wave, Inc., a leading designer and provider of RF communication system components, today announced at World PC Expo that Silicon Wave has licensed the ARM7TDMI® processor core for integration into it's high-performance, low-power Bluetooth(TM) baseband processor developed for cellular phones, PDAs, mobile computing and other wireless products.

``Silicon Wave has selected ARM's industry-leading processor core because of its low-power, high-performance and standardized architecture,'' said Dave Lyon, president and CEO of Silicon Wave. ``The ARM7TDMI core complements Silicon Wave's high-performance, low-power Bluetooth baseband processors, and enables OEMs to design Bluetooth products that are robust, reliable and provide long battery life.''

``Through this agreement, Silicon Wave has further confirmed that the classic benefits of the ARM7TDMI core are driving it to become the processor of choice for serious Bluetooth product providers,'' said George Milne, Bluetooth product manager, ARM. ``As a leading provider of microprocessor intellectual property, we believe the ARM® architecture combined with Silicon Wave's low-power, robust baseband products will provide OEMs with a full-range of leading-edge consumer wireless solutions.''

The ARM7TDMI core is part of the ARM7(TM) family of low-power 32-bit RISC microprocessor cores optimized for cost and power-sensitive consumer applications. Offering up to 130MIPs (Dhrystone2.1), the ARM7 family incorporates the Thumb® 16-bit instruction set, which enables 32-bit performance at 8/16-bit system cost. The ARM7 family consists of the ARM7TDMI, the ARM7TDMI-S(TM) and the ARM7EJ-S(TM) processor cores, and the ARM720T(TM) cached processor macrocell.
